PREVNet's Impact in Canada & the World

Canada

PREVNet is dedicated to making sustained social change in Canada by working with Provincial and Territorial Ministries of Education and the Joint Consortium of School Health (a partnership of Canada's federal, provincial and territorial governments to support comprehensive school health). Our goal is to develop safe school policies and tools to help educators with their implementation of bullying prevention and relationship initiatives. Drs. Pepler and Craig have testified (December 2011) to the Senate Committee on Human Rights on the rise of cyberbullying and in May 2013, Dr. Craig and PREVNet partners participated in a roundtable on cyberbullying with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

International

PREVNet’s leaders have worked with bullying task forces in Australia, the Republic of Georgia, Europe, and Colombia to develop knowledge-mobilization networks. In the United States, we have partnered with the Department of Education to develop a website and literature review on bullying. Dr. Craig is one of two international consultants on the US Bullying Prevention Task Force and sat on a panel for the Centre of Disease Control to create a uniform definition of bullying. PREVNet works closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), and is part of United Nations' (UN) North American Roundtable on Violence Against Children. In 2007, Drs. Pepler and Craig were leaders in the International Bullying Prevention Roundtable and the landmark "Kandersteg Declaration" in Switzerland, which outlines key principles to address bullying and has been signed by over 30 countries.
