Frank Vitaro is a lead researcher in the Research Unit on Children’s Psychosocial Maladjustment at the University of Montreal. His research interests focus on the concurrent and longitudinal associations between children’s behavioural profile, their sociometric status, and their self perceptions. He also examines the early behavioural and sociometric predictors of problems in adaptation, such as delinquency, substance use, depressive symptoms, and school dropout. Dr. Vitaro has focused on developing and evaluating experimental interventions to support the development of social skills and problem solving for children with developmental deficits, behavioural problems, or problems with peer rejection. He has also been involved in developing and evaluating experimental school-based programs to prevent substance use.
