Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children

The Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children (CCRC) brings together Canadian organizations and individuals who are concerned about the rights of children. Its purpose is:

  • Exchange of information relating to the rights of children
  • Public education about the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)
  • Monitoring implementation of the CRC in Canada
  • Policy dialogue with government officials on the rights of children
  • Links to other groups working for the well-being of children

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the guiding framework for all activities of the coalition.

Monitoring Initiative: The Coalition will work with the National Children’s Alliance to monitor Canada’s progress in implementation of the CRC. Terms of reference and plans for preparing an alternative civil society report are available.

Advocacy: The Coalition will pursue specific issues, such as:

  • follow-up activities to the UN Secretary General’s Report on Violence Against Children
  • using Senate Committee report to advocate for more effective child rights mechanisms
  • input into General Comment on Child Participation and other international actions
  • supporting related advocacy campaigns, such as ratification of the Disabilities Convention, which includes protection for the rights of children with disabilities.

Awareness and Education:  The Coalition will support member initiatives to promote the CRC through sharing information, joint activities, and upgrading the website.
