Walk Away, Ignore It, Talk It Out, Seek Help
The WITS programs are designed to prevent bullying and promote positive relationships for children from Kindergarten to Grade 3 (WITS Primary Program) and for Grades 4 to 6 (WITS LEADS). The WITS programs were developed in Canada by PREVNet researcher, Dr. Bonnie Leadbeater in collaboration with one of PREVNet's partner organizations, the Rock Solid Foundation. The WITS programs are delivered by community role models such as police officers, fire-fighters, paramedics and athletes. By bringing together schools, families and communities the WITS programs work to create responsive environments that help elementary school children deal with bullying and peer victimization.
PREVNet’s success this year has been in connecting two of our partners, Rock Solid and the RCMP, to deliver this program in rural and remote communities across Canada. We have also connected WITS with the Red Cross WTPC program so they can begin to adapt the program for Aboriginal communities in Canada.
