In most incidents of bullying and harassment, there are witnesses present. When we don’t step in, we can inadvertently signal that we approve of the behaviour, leaving the target feeling very alone. When we safely take action, we can help stop the negative behaviour from continuing, and show that bullying and harassment are not behaviours we will condone.
It only takes one person to make a difference in someone else’s life.
When it comes to mental health, one person can make a difference, too. For example, having a kind and supportive friend may buffer us from some of the negative things that inevitably happen in life. Being a trustworthy and reliable good friend – not just a superficial one – can make a difference in both your life and your friends’ lives!
Spreading kindness can be as simple as showing up, being there, saying something. It doesn't have to be complicated. But sometimes it does take courage and a real commitment to doing the kind ting.
The #SpreadKindness bracelet is also a symbol for all of our Youth Advisory Committee’s projects that we’re rolling out this year, all of which have the aim of promoting healthy relationships and preventing bullying.
