Why Bullied Teens Are More Likely to Engage in Substance Use

A recent U.S. study followed students from fifth to tenth grade and found that frequent experiences with bullying was associated with higher odds of depression and consequently, a greater likelihood of substance use in later years. PREVNet researcher Bonnie Leadbeater comments, explaining that these conclusions can also be the result of peer groups that facilitate substance use among teens.
