Dr. Lisa Serbin

Lisa A. Serbin is Professor of Psychology at Concordia University, where she holds a Concordia University Research Chair in Human Development. She is a member  (and founding director) of the Centre for Research in Human Development, a centre of research excellence. Dr. Serbin is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, the American Psychological Associations (Divisions of Developmental, Psychology of Women), and the Society of Clinical Psychology. She is the author of over 100 empirical publications, and has mentored over 30 Ph.D. students, plus numerous master’s and post-doctoral trainees. Dr. Serbin is a co-director of the Concordia Longitudinal Research Project, a large multi-generational study of lower income, at-risk families in Quebec which has followed over 4000 Quebec families for over 35 years. This research program is funded by multiple federal and Quebec agencies, including SSHRC, CIHR, and FQRSC. Dr. Serbin’s research focuses on the lifetime course and intergenerational outcomes of childhood aggression; the intergenerational effects of family poverty and disadvantage on development and health; the development of gender roles; the outcomes of girlhood aggression, and social/environmental predictors of women’s health. With four generations now included in the Concordia project, she is currently involved in studies of parenting and the intergenerational transfer of risk and the neuroendocrine and physical health effects of childhood aggression.
