Associate Professor, Faculty of Education and the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications

Catherine did her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Critical Pedagogy at OISE, University of Toronto. Her interest in the field of anti-oppressive education is reflected in her courses, "Critical Pedagogy and Student Diversity" and "Critical Literacy for Empowerment" in the Faculty of Education. Recent publications include Writing and Reading across the Disciplines (2007), Nowhere Near Enough: A Needs Assessment of the Transgender and Two Spirit Population of Manitoba (2006), and book chapters and journal articles on critical literacy, anti-homophobia education, research ethics, and progressive education at the K12 and university levels. She serves as a member of Egale Canada's Safe Schools Committee and is P.I. in partnership with Egale Canada for the "First National Climate Survey of Homophobia in Canadian Schools."
