Professor Jane Bailey

Associate Professor, Faculty of Law

Jane Bailey, BAS, MIR, LLB, LLM, is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) at the University of Ottawa. She has spoken and written extensively on issues relating to law, technology and equality, including:  sexting, online hate propagation, online child pornography, privacy, equality and cyberbullying. She is the co-principal investigator (with Valerie Steeves) of the 3-year SSHRC funded initiative The eGirls Project (examining the performance of gender on social networking sites), and a co-investigator and working group leader on the 7-year SSHRC funded MCRI Towards Cyberjustice:  Rethinking Processual Law.  Jane has been a frequent speaker at National Judicial Institute educational events, has appeared as an expert witness and filed written submissions to Parliamentary committees relating to online hate propagation and cyberbullying, and created and teaches a unique seminar entitled Cyberfeminism in which students focus on theory and policy issues relating to law, technology and equality.
