Why does Canada lag behind the U.S. in bullying prevention: Canada ranked 21st out of 29 industrialized nations in a 2013 UNICEF study, while the U.S. ranked 12th. Dr. Debra Pepler, PREVNet’s Scientific Co-Director, told Global News that "the United States is much better on addressing bullying problems and preventing it than we are in Canada." She added that one of the reasons for this is because “(in the U.S.) the health jurisdiction and the national education jurisdiction have been working together to really make this a national issue. In Canada that hasn’t happened. There really hasn’t been any kind of unified public health promotion perspective on it.”
