PREVNet Scientific Co-Directors Recognized for Fostering Cyber Safety

Dr. Debra Pepler and Dr. Wendy Craig, PREVNet's Scientific Co-Directors as well as PREVNet partner MediaSmarts have been honoured by TELUS WISE (Wise Internet and Smartphone Education) as winners of their inaugural Outstanding Canadian Awards, October 21st, 2015.  The TELUS WISE awards program celebrates individuals, organizations or programs that have made "a significant impact towards keeping Canadians safer online."

TELUS WISE is an industry leading program focused on providing free Internet and smartphone safety and education for Canadians and their families. The program works with teachers, parents, students, not for profit organizations, and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police to develop resources, seminars and research to help keep Canadians safer online.

This year, TELUS WISE recognizes 5 Canadian honourees. The recipients are:

• Anna Crosland, Teacher Librarian, Georges Vanier Elementary School, Surrey, British Columbia
  Outstanding Canadian student, teacher or program (kindergarten to grade 12)
• Dr. Wendy Craig and Dr. Debra Pepler, PREVNet Co-Founders, Toronto, Ontario
  Outstanding Canadian student, teacher or program  (post-secondary)
• Carol Todd, Amanda Todd Legacy, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia
  Outstanding Canadian citizen
• Staff Sgt. Darren Laur, Victoria Police, Victoria, British Columbia
  Outstanding Canadian police officer or program
• MediaSmarts, Ottawa, Ontario
  Outstanding Canadian not-for-profit program
