Dr. Jean Côté

Director, School of Kinesiology and Health Studies

Dr. Jean Côté is professor and Director in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s University at Kingston (Canada). His research interests are in the areas of youth sport, coaching, and positive youth development. He has published more than 150 refereed papers on a variety of sport psychology topics and given over 300 scientific presentations. Dr. Côté is regularly invited to present his work to both sport governing organizations and academic conferences throughout the world.  He has delivered 35 keynote addresses at major national and international conferences.    

Dr. Côté has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, The Sport Psychologist, Revue International des Sciences du Sport et de l’Education Physique, and Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy. He was the editor of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Côté holds a cross appointment as a visiting professor in the School of Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland in Australia and at Northumbria University in Newcastle, England.   

Dr. Côté received in 2012 the Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision for the social sciences and humanities at Queen’s University. In 2009, Dr. Côté was the recipient of the 4th EW Barker Professorship from the Physical Education and Sport Science deparment at the National Institute of Education in Sinpapore. Dr. Côté, in collaboration with Dr. Ronnie Lidor, has recently completed the first comprehensive book on talent development in children’s sport which was published in 2013 by Fitness Information Technology.
