PREVNet celebrates Pride Month as we continue to strive for equality, safety, and acceptance for all.
PREVNet works to create a safe climate for all youth and is committed to addressing the systemic oppression that puts certain groups at a higher risk of violence. We continue to support change towards making life safer for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and raising awareness of healthy relationships, bullying and youth dating violence through education, research, training, and policy change.
Here, we’ve collected a short list of websites with tons of fantastic resources for providing educators, parents, caregivers, and anyone working with youth the tools to provide care and support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

The Impact of Requiring Parental or Guardian Consent on Research with 2SLGBTQ+ Youth
There is a need for high-quality research on the wellbeing of 2SLGBT2Q+ youth in Canada, but the requirement of obtaining the consent of parent/guardians when conducting research with adolescents may undermine young people’s sense of agency and autonomy and overestimate the risk of research participation. This Research Summary examines a study testing whether a requirement for parent/guardian consent would systematically limit which 2SLGBTQ+ youth participated in a survey study. Researchers can use this study to inform study designs and research ethics board applications. - Translating Gender Inclusive Terms from English to French

Pride and National Indigenous History Month
In addition to Pride, June is also National Indigenous History Month. Because of systemic oppression, marginalized youth are at a higher risk of being victimized by bullying, harassment, and violence. And this is especially true for youth at a cross-section of multiple marginalized identities, such as being 2SLGBTQ+ and Indigenous.
As we continue to work toward a future that is better, safer, and more affirming for all, here are some resources for Indigenous 2SLGBTQ+ youth:
The Enchanté Network connects and supports over 120 pride centres and 2SLGBTQ+ service providers across Canada. This month, the Enchanté Network is unveiling #PrideOnTurtleIsland — a campaign celebrating the work of 2 Spirit and Indigi-queer leaders & organizations.
