The Huddle Up Bullying Prevention program addresses issues such as bullying, racism and discrimination and helps give students messaging on how to influence positive change to enhance their school community.
The Toronto Argonauts, Raptors, Maple Leafs and TFC have joined forces with Canada’s leading authority on bullying prevention, PREVNet, to bring bullying education and awareness into schools. Messaging is amplified by the voices of professional athletes through school visits, events, PSAs and a new online learning platform for grades 6-9. Established in 2001 by the Toronto Argonauts, Huddle Up has impacted over 8000 students annually.
The Huddle Up Student Committee consists of approximately 10 students, guided by a teacher advisor, who lead bullying awareness and prevention initiatives throughout the year at their school. The campaign is kicked off through a virtual meeting between program founder and the student committee.
Written by teachers, supported by PREVNet, and aligned with Ontario’s Health and Physical Education Curriculum, the platform provides students in grades 6-9 the opportunity to work through a series of interactive, online lessons to deepen learning and practice strategies to strengthen relationships and overall well-being. The lessons include teachers curriculum guide to suggested lesson plans, exercises to engage in classroom discussion and post assessments to inform teachers of their students ability to grasp the topics. The online platform will also include vetted resources, contests and activities to help the Huddle Up Committee with their efforts. Schools will enroll their classrooms in this platform to be considered for the in school collaboration with the MLSE presentation team.
The Huddle Up Player Assembly amplifies the Huddle Up Committee’s efforts with messaging from a Toronto Argonauts, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, or Toronto FC player. 40 schools will receive a player assembly each year.
