Dr. Faye Mishna

Dr. Faye Mishna is a Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. She served as the Dean from 2009-2019. She cross-appointed to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, an Invited Member, Wilson Centre, and a Senior Fellow, Massey College. Prior to joining the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work she was Clinical Director of a children’s mental health centre serving children with learning disabilities.

Her program of research focuses on bullying/ cyber bullying and sexting among youth, informal cyber technology use in social work practice, and clinical practice. An integral component of her research entails collaboration with community agencies and organizations. She is the PI on two SSHRC Insight Grants: 1) Consensual and Non-Consensual Sexting in Adolescence: Challenging Conventional Wisdom (2019-2024); and 2) #SocialWork: Informal Use of Information and Communication Technology as an Adjunct to Traditional Face-to-Face Practice (2016-2022). She is Co-Principal Investigator on 2 Youth Sexting projects, in collaboration with University College London. She is a team member on 1) a project on Artificial Intelligence for Online Cancer Support Groups (2019-2021); 2) a SSHRC Partnership Grant on Rape Culture in Universities (2016-2023); and 3) a SSHRC Partnership Grant on the effects of a digital world on youth (2015-2022). Dr. Faye Mishna is a Professor and Dean of Social Work at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the Faculty of Social Work she was Clinical Director of a children’s mental health centre serving children with learning disabilities. Her research has focused on bullying from the perspectives of the victimized children, their parents and educators and more recently on cyber bullying. In addition, her research includes school-based interventions for students with learning disabilities in which others attitudes towards children with LD are targeted.
