In a recent article from Global News, PREVNet partner researcher Dr. Debra Pepler and partner organization MediaSmarts discuss “roasting” as the newest form of cyberbullying among children and youth in Canada. This process involves kids uploading content of themselves and inviting their friends and strangers to roast them online. For Dr. Pepler and MediaSmarts, these kinds of behaviours encourage cyberbullying. Even negative attention fufills the need for belonging for youth that drift to the social margins of the group.
